* Featuring singer-songwriter Zeb Pigott-Duggan LIVE in studio *

Believe it or not, The Boss himself,Bruce Springsteen, has recently recorded a cover of the 1986 classic by The Saints ‘Just Like Fire Would’!  It’s on his new album High Hopes.  I’m not sure what Bruce’s association with Chris Bailey is but it must be an intriguing series of events that led to this huge star paying homage to an Australian punk legend. Internet sources note Bailey may pocket $500,000 in royalties!

Zeb Pigott Duggan is our special studio guest this week.  He is playing a show at the Railway Club next Friday night along with David Roy Parsons and myself!  Zeb, who grew up playing traditional Irish music with his father,  time spent many years performing vocals and violin with Vancouver band The Next Hundred Years.   He speaks today of growing up in Vancouver in the 1980s, and performs three very emotionally-resonate tunes solo acoustic.  MG

Nunchukka Superfly is the long running side project of Blackie and Ray who are two thirds of the legendary Sydney-based punk band Hard-Ons. I recently re-discovered their sonically abrasive and wonderfully off-kilter 2006 record ‘There Are No Accidents Just F*ckwits’. You can hear a few tracks from this classic release on the show.

Next up are three experimental/ambient acts – White Poppy, Pan and Magneticring – who are playing at the Big Joy Festival in Vancouver this weekend.

2013 was a big year for Australian music overseas with a strong SXSW contingent and notable tours. Courtney Barnett, Jagwar Ma and Pond have all been noted on England’s NME magazine end of year wrap-up. You can hear tracks from all three of these buzz acts on the show today. And we wrap up the show with tracks from the three finalists of Shindig 2013 – Zen Mystery Fogg, Skinny Kids and War Baby. Get on down to the Railway Club next Tuesday night if you’re an indie-music loving Vancouver local!
