* Featuring interviews with Perth-based roots musician Toby, and Sandra Leigh of Vancouver’s Give Peace A Chant *

I start off today’s show with a couple of tracks by Ghostwriters, the side project of Rob Hirst, drummer of Midnight Oil.   It’s well recognized that Hirst was the real creative powerhouse of the Oils, and his songwriting prowess is certainly on display with these two tracks from the ‘Someone’s Singing New York, New York’ CD single.  Next up are 6 tracks from 1994 which were all sourced from the JJJ Hottest 100 CD of that year.  Again, thanks to my ‘secret admirer’ for gifting me that CD, along with the stack of Australian music CD’s that were left anonymously at the CiTR station…

Sandra Leigh is the long-term organizer and main voice behind the sublime ‘Give Peace A Chant‘ bi-weekly kirtan held here in Vancouver since 2001.  Sandra speaks on the phone today about the origins of ‘Give Peace A Chant’, what devotional singing means for her, and the benefit she feels that bhakti yoga can provide for humanity.  This is in anticipation of her performance at Kirtan Vancouver 2012 being held this weekend at 2nd Beach.  CiTR is hosting the live broadcast of this event.

Also on today’s show is an interview with Perth, WA-based roots singer/songwriter Toby.  Toby is returning to the Great White North for her 11th tour.  That is remarkable!  Today she speaks on the phone from Alcatraz prison where she was talking through as a tourist on a rare day off from the road.  Toby is playing at the vegetarian eatery and live venue Cafe Deux Soleils in Vancouver on 24 Aug.  And we finish up the show with a track by Saskatchewan native Megan Nash.

Enjoy!
