Icehouse are a long-running new wave/synth-pop band from Sydney, active since 1977, which we’ve not explored on the show so far. We make up for lost time this week with three singles from the album Flowers (1980). Then we’re excited to air a brand new track from Eddie Current Suppression Ring! It’s been a full ten years since their last album. I can’t wait to check out the new record All In Good Time. After our mix of new Canadian tracks we wrap the show with a classic from The Clean.

Today’s special guest is Neil Bernstein, frontman of New Westminster-based metal band Liminis. Neil is providing a tangible service to the community by hosting the upcoming ‘Rock For Blood‘ benefit. The benefit which includes performances by Liminis, Aviator Shades, The Wild! and the legendary Dayglo Abortions, aims to raise awareness about the importance of donating blood and to raise money for the Canadian Blood Service. Tune in to hear some great local heavy music and Neil speaking about the personal reasons behind his spearheading this fine initiative.

* Lindy Gray LIVE in the CiTR studio *

We’ve invited yet another quality local songwriter into the studio today – Lindy Gray.  Lindy, who has trained in jazz and Indian classical music, is skilled at crafting detailed narratives into song form.  She is also experienced at collaborating with other local musicians and artists as part of the Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret. You can hear three examples of Lindy’s favourite song form, the murder ballad, as she plays acoustically live in the studio.  Lindy’s debut EP ‘Ripe for Revival‘, is available online, and listeners can expect a vinyl LP is follow in the near future.

* Featuring a mix-bag of great new Cancon tunes *

I recently discovered a curious compilation LP in the CiTR record library that is perfect for the show -‘Beyond The Southern Cross – A Compilation of Indie Recordings from Australia and New Zealand’.  ‘Beyond The Southern Cross’ was released as a double vinyl album by Ink Records (INK 4D) in 1984 and features tracks by notable underground bands who were active in the late 70s/early 80s.  We play from the compilation two tracks a piece by Tactics and legendary Flying Nun band The Clean, from New Zealand.

The remainder of the show is dedicated to showcasing recent releases by a superb crop of Canadian independent artists, many of who have recently been touring extensively throughout Canada, and even Scandinavia for Jenny Ritter.  Brave Parents is the hypnotic new project from Shane Turner who has recently relocated from Vancouver to Toronto.  Another real treat today is two tracks by Eamon McGrath from the Pegasus sessions of demo recordings that were recorded during the autumn of 2011, prior to last year’s last year’s Young Canadians.
