The Church have embarked on another North American tour, this time celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Starfish, and which included a Vancouver show. The ‘Deluxe Edition’ of the record includes some b-sides and rarities and you can hear three of these tracks at the top of the show. We’re excited to air a track from Ed Kuepper’s latest side-project The Aints, as well as introducing listeners to folk artist Jennifer Holub from Sudbury, ON and the self-described ‘fallen gospel gutter folk’ of Nastiweather from East Vancouver.

SNFU, who formed in Edmonton in 1981, are one of the all-time great and longest running Canadian punk bands, with front-man Chi Pig, based now in Vancouver, being the only remaining original member. We air three tracks from the band’s back-catalogue, including a track from their most recent album, 2013’s ‘Never Trouble Trouble Until Trouble Troubles You’. Our selection of new Australian and Canadian tracks this week include artists based as far afield as Darwin, NT (Sam Carmody), Saint John, NB (Jennifer Irving) and Prince George, BC (Danny Bell).

Then we’re into new tracks from the legendary Geoff Berner, The Weather Station and Terri-Lynn Williams-Davidson of the Haida Nation who also works in the field of aboriginal/environmental law. And we debut the moving single that composer Peter Hobbes of New Zealand has created to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First Battle of Passchendaele. Track ‘300 Yards of Ground’ is based on a letter by Private Leonard Hart, one of the few Kiwi soldiers who survived the devastating battle of October 17, 1917.

Our special guest this week is Jay Myers aka The Alkemist.  I first saw Jay play live last summer and was highly impressed with his positive spirit and one-man-band eclecticism. This year I caught up with Jay at the 2017 Arts Wells festival and had a great chat on a sunny morning sitting by the creek near town. You can hear three tracks from the band new Alkemist record Lighthouse and hear Jay talk about his impressive home building project in Fort Fraser. BC where he resides and makes music. You can also hear the brand new single Undersea, from The Church from their highly anticipated new record Man Woman Life Death Infinity.

We revisit legendary underground band The New Christs this week, with two blistering early singles and a track from the return-to-form Incantations record of 2014.  Songwriter and intense vocalist Rob Younger formed the New Christs in 1980 after the implosion of Radio Birdman and the band is still going strong after 5 quality albums.  This week we also revisit a 2011 interview we recorded with Steve Kilbey of The Church and we air a track from Speed of Stars – Steve’s collaborative project with Frank Kearns.  You can also hear a track from fellow radio DJ and singer-songwriter Jef Lesson from Ontario!
