* 2013 Fundrive special! *

What a big show!  We raised a stack of money for the CiTR Radio 101.9fm annual Fundrive.  Congrats to Stephen for winning the two tickets to the sold out Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Vancouver show and George for winning the Blundstone boots from the Australian Boot Company on 4th Ave.  Thanks also to Josh of Moloch Records and Chris from Baseone Guitars for donating prizes.

It is really, really important for listeners and supporters to contribute to the financial back-end of college/community radio so that passionate programmers can continue supporting independent culture and provide a voice to the under-privileged in our communities.   You can still donate online for an instant tax receipt.

The Fundrive Finale will be held on March 8 at Chapel Arts.  If you live in Vancouver, come on down and support the local music community and pick up a copy of the latest CiTR Pop Alliance vinyl compilation record 🙂

* Featuring an interview with Juno Award winning First Nations blues musician Murray Porter *

First up on the show is an interview with First Nations blues musician Murray Porter who is performing Friday 7th December at the Music BC Charitable Foundation event ‘A Celebration of BC Music & Music Education’ at the Vogue Theatre.  Murray Porter is Mohawk from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory in southern Ontario but he has lived in Vancouver for many years.   Murray won a 2012 JUNO Award for `Aboriginal Album of the Year’, for his release `Songs Lived & Life Played’. “Murray Porter is a master bluesman”. Robbie Robertson (CBC Radio Interview, 2004).

The other day while browsing at a London Drugs I came across a CD re-issue of the original US release from AC/DC – the album ‘High Voltage‘ (1976).  Perfect for ‘Stranded’ I concluded…!  I feature 4 tracks from this Oz rock classic which is a treat for listeners who are partial to the working-man’s blues boogie/rock and lyrical double-entendres of Bon Scott era AC/DC.

The final part of the show features some impressive current Cancon including  a couple of tracks from J.Riley Hill – an up and coming outlaw folk/country singer from Winnipeg – and a punchy number by two-piece Hole In My Head who are supporting The Jolts and Nu Sense at the Interurban Gallery in Vancouver on Sat 8 Dec.

* Featuring Part 2 of the interview with Steve Kilbey of The Church and side-project Isidore *

‘Henry’s Dream’, the seventh full-length album by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, was released in North America exactly 20 yrs ago. Today on the show, I showcase the outstanding songwriting displayed on this LP, by playing two tracks, including the tender love-song ‘Straight To You’ and a third, ‘Blue Bird’, which is an outtake from the recording sessions.

And I also broadcast part two of my lastest chat with Steve Kilbey, bassist, singer, songwriter and member of the Church and numerous side-projects including Isidore. In this part of the interview, Steve reveals how he developed his musical vision during his youth in Canberra. He speaks about some of the technicalities of recording process and fills us in on the current status of The Church.  You can also enjoy three more tracks from the brand new release by Isidore, Life Somewhere Else.  Thanks for listening!

And tonight in Vancouver is the release-party for the lastest record by local faves Synthcake, at the Interurban Gallery. Two Synthcake tracks at the end of the show will wet your appetite for their hypnotic live show. MG
