Ok Vancouver Ok – ‘Black Part of Light’ [CA]
Hazy – ‘You More’ [CA]
Supermoon- ‘Fast Fashion’ [CA]

I’ve been on a roots-music kick of late so I thought I’d play one track apiece from the two albums that Paul Kelly put out with blue-grass backing bands – Paul Kelly and Uncle Bill – ‘Smoke’ (1999) and Paul Kelly and the Stormwater Boys – ‘Stolen Apples’ (2007). Both albums were well-received by Paul Kelly fans and root-music lovers alike. I follow that with a track from Paul Kelly’s latest album Seven Sonnets and a Song (2016), which remarkably features Paul putting music to the sonnets of Williams Shakespeare, to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the passing of the great bard.

Our special guest this week is singer-songwriter Sam Tudor, who is based in the Cariboo in BC, after time spent in Vancouver. I ran into Sam at the Arts Wells music festival and was pleased to discover he was wearing a CiTR radio sweater! Sam speaks about his community radio roots and describes how he got into songwriting an record making with the help of an influential school teacher.

AC/DC – ‘Problem Child’ [AU]
AC/DC – ‘Sin City’ [AU]
AC/DC – ‘Shake Your Foundation’ [AU]
Bloodhounds On My Trail – ‘Jolly’ [AU]
Tame Impala – ‘The Less I Know The Better’ [AU]

Blocktreat – ‘Hinterland Seez’ [CA]
Jo Passed – ‘Pet Crows’ [CA]
Supermoon – ‘Witching Hour’ [CA]
The Constantines – ‘National Hum’ [CA]

It’s timely to revisit the hard-rock institution AC/DC this week given the recent shock announcement of ‘new guy’ singer Brian Johnson being sidelined with a hearing issue and Axl Rose taking on vocal duties for the remainder of the ‘Rock or Bust Tour’. This follows the sad departure of Malcolm Young following his diagnosis of early on-set dementia. You’ll hear a couple of Bon Scott era classics and a mid-80s Brian Johnson era single.

We’re pleased to introduce some new artists this week including Australian shoe-gaze band Bloodhounds On My Trail and The Response, duo from New Zealand who have recently relocated to Vancouver, making them ideal for this show! You’ll also hear a couple of tracks from innovative BC electronica artist Blocktreat who we will be interviewing for an upcoming show.

* Interview with storyteller Naomi Steinberg *

Today’s special guest is professional storyteller Naomi Steinberg.  We’ve interviewed poets and other spoken word artists on the show before, but Naomi brings a whole new perspective on what it means to connect to the heart through the age-old technique of story-telling.  Naomi speaks about the mentorship she received at the start of her story-telling journey, and the work she has done in the local arts scene.  And Naomi has certainly found the right show to come in and chat on, as she is about to embark on a trip to Australia, in the cargo hold of a ship!  Melbournites will be able to enjoy Naomi perform once she reaches the shores of Victoria.
