* Featuring an interview with singer-songwriter Lindsey White *

This week we are joined by singer-songwriter Lindsey White, who phones all the way from her home in Winnipeg, Manitoba!  Lindsey is touring western Canada in support of her latest release ‘Renegades’, an album long in the making and inspired by hugely transformative events in her life. Such was the emotional turbulence of that period that Lindsey decided to write a companion book for the album.  Today Lindsey speaks of the origins of the record and fills us in on the valuable and fascinating service she performs teaching inner city kids music in Winnipeg.

* Record Store Day 2014 *

Before he burst onto the global stage through a fortunate association with Sonic Youth, Ben Lee fronted the teenage band Noise Addict. Last weekend I stumbled across their mid-90s ‘Noise Addict vs Silverchair’ EP at Zulu Records so I thought I’d spin the whole CD on the show today! A highlight is ‘I Wish I Was Him’ which was Ben’s homage to Evan Dando of the Lemonheads.

Also on the show today is a selection of Vancouver artists including the legendary Destroyer who is returning for a rare homing show in mid 2014, as well as bands playing this weekend for the Sasstorino’s 1 year anniversary bash and also Record Store Day 2014!

* Featuring NOMEANSNO *

NOMEANSNO are a truely one–of-a-kind band and an alternative Canadian institution. The Wright brothers, on bass and drums, formed the nucleus of the band in 1979 in Victoria, BC and developed their unique sound and sensibility before the addition of a guitarist. Lytically they have never feared to enter taboo territory and intelligently shed light on the nature of the human condition and political topics, without being preachy. You can hear a small handful of tracks from the band’s lengthy recording career today. You can also hear me read excepts from the invaluable book ‘NOMEANSNO: Going Nowhere’ by super-fan Mark Black, which is part of the Bibliographic series from Invisible Publishing.

Also on the show are tracks from the debut release by Vancouver group Spring, as well as two Australian artists who are making the trek to the 2014 SXSW Festival in Austin, TX.
