Following the Hoodoo Guru’s hiatus in 1998, band members got the itch to play again, so they re-branded themselves as The Persian Rugs and put out an EP and LP, chock full of 60s-style garage rock tunes. We air three of these tracks this week. Our mix of new tunes this week includes family band A Country Practice with their song ‘The Inundation into Our Room’ – a reflection on past floods and storms that hit South East Queensland, and a single from Vancouverite Marin Patenaude’s forthcoming full-length.

It’s fitting to re-visit some tracks from Wollongong-based stoner legends Tumbleweed given the recent 420 celebration here in North America! We feature some country music this week with new tracks from Trent Agecoutay and Mariel Buckley, both of Alberta. Also this week we introduce listeners to Jeremy Dutcher who’s innovative debut album ‘Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa’ includes traditional songs from Wolastoq First Nation communities that were recorded over 100 years ago and preserved on wax cylinders.

It’s a brand new year here on Stranded we’re kicking it off by featuring a stack of tracks from Kiwi artists. i was delighted to discover that New Zealand had it’s very own power-house 60s British-invasion style band called The La De Das. As you can hear from the single ‘Gonna See My Baby Tonight’, the La De Das were most certainly world class, and they achieved considerable success in both New Zealand and Australia before they split in 1975. And lots of great new music from Canada on the show, as always, including new tracks from legends Buffy Sainte-Marie and Geoff Berner. And we introduce listeners to VISSIA from Edmonton, and  traditional folk act The Eastpointers from Prince Edward Island who recently wrapped up their first tour of Australia.

This week we introduce listeners to Australian songwriter Richard Davies who came to prominence in the 90s with his band The Moles, who recorded two LPs, and relocated to New York City. Richard has since embarked on a solo career which has included collaborations with other quality musicians including the great Robert Pollard from Guided By Voices!  You can hear the track ‘Zeppelin Commander’ from the Davies/Pollard project Cosmos on the show.  You can also hear a track a piece from the split cassette between Melbourne bands No Sister and Bitumen, out on Vacant Valley records, and lots of quality new Canadian music, including new two-piece noise-rock outfit COPE, out of Lethbridge, AB.
