The 2015 record Poison Season by Destroyer marked yet another departure in sound for Dan Bejar’s long running project, and like all of his past records, was an impressive and intoxicating listen. This week we feature the track ‘Hell’ from Poison Season, as well as two tracks from Destroyer’s extensive back-catalogue.

Congratulations to Randy Iwata and the Mint Records team for making it to the 25 year mark! To celebrate the occasion, Mint have released a compilation titled ‘Quarter Life Crisis’. We feature three tracks from the compilation this week, including a brand new track from Chris-a-riffic!

New Zealand Music Month has been and gone for another year but I caught on a bit late this time around so we’re extending our tribute for another show! We air three undeniable classics up front from Chris Knox, Straightjacket Fits and The Chills. Then we introduce listeners to two quality acts from the Fishrider Records roster – Death and The Maiden and The Shifting Sands.

Brilliant guitarist Phil Kikuchi from Vancouver has released a new acoustic record called ‘Wood and Steel Alchemist’ and we feature a track from it in the second half of the show. You’ll also hear an ambient track from Karina Pry and a cut from the debut full-length from Adrian Teacher and The Subs!

Occasionally a bona-fide Australian touring musician makes his or her way to Vancouver and even as far as CiTR radio for an interview and live session on Stranded! This week I jumped at the chance to meet one of Australia’s most respect singer-songwriters – the legendary Liz Stringer from Melbourne. Vancouver is the first stop on Liz’s inaugural Canadian tour. Listeners are in for a real treat as Liz shares three flawlessly written and soulfully performed acoustic songs. She also fills us in on the joys of her recent recording session in Portland, OR and speaks of her life in Melbourne, including her supportive musical connection with Mick Thomas of Weddings Parties Anything.

An extra special guest phones through to chat this week – Rick Reid, guitarist, vocalist and lyricist of Montreal-based two-piece ‘fog pop’ band Eternal Husbands!  Rick and bassist Matt Leddy are well known to Stranded and the Canadian independent music world as two-thirds of The City Streets who formed in Edmonton in 2005 and released a number of top-notched records until they disbanded in 2013. Rick and Matt have explored a new sound with the new band, incorporating synths and an expansive, layered approach to their recording. Album #2 ‘French Exit’ is out now. Catch Eternal Husbands on tour this summer and you won’t be disappointed!
