* 2013 Fundrive special! *

What a big show!  We raised a stack of money for the CiTR Radio 101.9fm annual Fundrive.  Congrats to Stephen for winning the two tickets to the sold out Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Vancouver show and George for winning the Blundstone boots from the Australian Boot Company on 4th Ave.  Thanks also to Josh of Moloch Records and Chris from Baseone Guitars for donating prizes.

It is really, really important for listeners and supporters to contribute to the financial back-end of college/community radio so that passionate programmers can continue supporting independent culture and provide a voice to the under-privileged in our communities.   You can still donate online for an instant tax receipt.

The Fundrive Finale will be held on March 8 at Chapel Arts.  If you live in Vancouver, come on down and support the local music community and pick up a copy of the latest CiTR Pop Alliance vinyl compilation record 🙂

* Featuring tracks from the Ugly Pop Records series of garage-rock 7″ re-issues, and an ‘Arts Extra’ special on ‘Pleased To Meet You: Introductions by Gwyn Hanssen Pigott’ which is showing at the Museum of Anthropology until March 2013 *

Some more tracks from the Ugly Pop Records re-issue series on the show today!  We’re hearing from two Canadian garage rock bands from the 60s – The Northwest Company (Vancouver) and A Passing Fancy (Toronto), as well as the only recorded output of Edmonton’s Rock N Roll Bitches, whose 7″ Wild Wild West was recorded in 1980.  Vancouver listeners can purchase copies of these 7″s from Moloch Records.

We have  brief detour into the world of visual arts today with a special on ‘Pleased To Meet You: Introductions by Gwyn Hanssen Pigott’ which is showing at the Museum of Anthropology (MOA) in Vancouver until March 2013.  Gwyn Hanssen Pigott is a world-renowned Australian ceramicist who was invited to pick out objects from the MOA collection and place them together in an exhibit, purely by reference to form and aesthetics.  I attended the opening of the exhibit a few weeks back and recorded an interview with Gwyn herself as well as a curator of the MOA.  You can hear those interviews today, as well as my reflections on the exhibit.

And it’s Christmas time, so Paul Kelly‘s classic ‘How To Make Gravy’ is a compulsory spin today! You can also hear the heartfelt classic ‘Christmas Eve (with you)’ by Peter Foldy and a brand new free-for-download Christmas tune by Sloan 🙂
