* Interview with Kim from Mi’ens and Adam Scott Baille LIVE in the CiTR studio *

We have two fine examples of hard-working local independent musicians as guests this week. First up is Kim Glennie, one part of two-piece math-rock band Mi’ens.  Kim brought down to the studio a test pressing of the debut full-length – hide ‘experimentalsparklenoisepop’ produced by Jesse Gander. Kim spins some tracks from the record and speaks eloquently about her previous year’s rewarding activity in the local music scene and plans for an upcoming over-seas jaunt.

Adam Scott Baille pops into the studio for the last half hour of the show, with guitar in hand and much to say about his sterling effort of his project ‘Back to the Vault – 50 Songs in 50 Days’. Adam has just completed the extraordinary feat of revising a handful of old tunes and writing and recording a huge number of new song, in just one month with song #50 to be released in a matter of days. Adam has also produced a video for each song. You can see Adam perform weekly at Displace Hashery.

* Interview with Ma Petite and To Stowaway LIVE in the CiTR studio *

Today is a fine example of why this radio show exists – two special musical guests who have come all the way across the oceans from Australia! And that’s especially true for Matthew of Melbourne-based project To Stowaway, who has recently embarked in the Pacific North West following a weeks-long journey by boat from Sydney. Matthew speaks of his experiences road-tripping through the USA and plays us a tune live in the studio that he wrote for his partner and that references the city of Portland, OR.

But first up we hear from Indiana Avent aka Ma Petite, another resident of Melbourne, who is about to kick-off the release of her debut album and first ever Canadian tour. Indiana previously spent a few years living in Vancouver. She recorded her record here in her much-loved second home, through an inspired and lengthy process involving multiple studios and contributions from friends.

* Featuring an interview with Toronto-based Aussie hip-hop artist NoTiOn *

Last weekend I attended the Nettwerk Records moving sale and loaded up with some rarities including a press promo EP for the 2002 Neil Finn album ‘One All’.   The EP features live acoustic tracks, interspersed with highlights of an interview that was recorded with Neil at a Los Angeles radio station.  A track from Neil’s talented son Liam follows.

Neil Finn is an example of an artist who was deeply influenced by an older brother (Tim), when he was forming his musical sensibilities in New Zealand.   This is very similar to today’s interview – Toronto-based Aussie hip hop artist Notion.  In podcast #155 we interviewed Notion’s older brother Craig (Cee).  On today’s show Notion reveals more of the story of how two hip hop loving Australian brothers made their way to Eastern Canada, where they have overcome the odds to build a loyal following in both Montreal and Toronto.  Here’s looking forward to a west coast visit from the boys…

Also on the show are tracks from SHED who are releasing their latest record on Gabriola Island this weekend, and mi’ens, a new project from Kim of Vancouver band Reverter!
