* Interview with professional magician Merlin Cosmos *

This week are joined by a special guest who i never would have expected to even meet, let alone interview – professional magician Merlin Cosmos!  Merlin came up to chat with me when I was postering for this month’s 10 May ‘Stranded Sunday Session #8 at the Railway Club.  When I discovered what he did for a living I immediately asked if he was interested in performing before the musicians and he said yes!  Merlin speaks today of how he was mentored into the rarefied profession of magic which led him to an over 30yr long career of incredibly over 10,000 shows!

* Featuring an introduction to 1990s inner-city Sydney band Crow and the brand new single from New Zealand’s Matt Langley *

Crow were a brooding, explosive, and highly influential alternative band who were a fixture of Sydney’s thriving music scene in the 90s. Featuring the song-writing partnership of Peter Fenton and Peter Archer, Crow existed from 1988-1999, before a 2007 reformation that is still running. Today on the show we feature two tracks from the unconventional, yet powerful Steve Albini produced full-length ‘My Kind Of Pain’ (1993).

Matt Langley is surely one of the top current songwriting talents from New Zealand. Following the well-received ‘Featherbones’ LP and his award for best New Zealand country song for ‘7:13’, Matt returns with his highly anticipated sophomore release, Virginia Avenue. Today we feature the brand new single from that soon-to-be released long-player.

And we wrap up the show with a few more tracks from the Safe Amplification Society compilation of 2012 that show-cases a range of top-notch Vancouver indie bands.
