Ken Chinn, AKA Chi Pig, front-man and lyricist of Canadian hardcore punk band SNFU has passed away at age 57. SNFU formed in Edmonton in 1981 and quickly became a mainstay on the Canadian punk scene. International acclaim followed after relocation to Vancouver and three albums that were released on Epitaph Records. I was blown away by Chi’s stage presence when I saw the band supporting Bad Religion on an Australian tour in the 90s. Chi Pig has inspired many, many people globally. RIP.

Junkee.com has posted The History Of Australian Indie Rock In 30 Essential Tracks. The list starts from 1988 but i’m going to pick up from 2005 which is around the time I started travelling and wasn’t paying as much attention to oz music as I should have. After three classics from that era, we debut ‘Streets of Florence’, a track Andy White and collaborators recorded in March and April swapping files from lockdown in Italy and Melbourne. Then it’s three tracks from the surprise LP from Apollo Ghosts titled Local Delivery Only, a selection of covers of the Ghosts’s favourite Vancouver artists and bands.

* Acoustic musician Tom West LIVE in the CiTR studio *

This week marked the end of the very long running ‘Late Show with David Letterman’. One of the regular features that made the show so appealing was the regular world class musical acts that played. About a dozen Australian acts were fortunate enough to perform on the show over the years and we kick off the show this week with recordings of three of the featured acts – INXS, Midnight Oil and The Vines!

Our musical guest this week is Adelaide-based acoustic musician Tom West! Only a year ago Tom made the courageous decision to leave a career as a lawyer to pursue his music full-time and this has led to his first mini show-case tour of some key Canadian cities. Tune in to hear three wonderful acoustic tracks and Tom chatting about his songwriting process.
