Then we’re straight into an interview with fantastic two-piece Melbourne band This Way North. I caught up with Cat and Leisha of the band at this year’s Arts Wells festival (which thankfully went ahead despite the BC wildfires). We air three This Way North singles as well as tracks from the Shiny Coin/Spit split record and a track a piece from Josh Sahunta of Edmonton, AB and Sir Reginald who got in touch with us from Australia (don’t forget to get in touch with us via email if you’d like your independent tunes aired on the show).

This week we feature Kiwi new-wave band Mi-Sex who’ve just released their first record in over 30 years! I recall being mesmerized by their synth-driven hit ‘Computer Games’ when I heard it late at night on ABCTV’s Rage program and I’ve since discovered this song become #1 on the Australian charts. Sadly the band’s vocalist Steve Gilpin died in 1992 but the band reformed at various points and finally released a new album this year titled Not from Here. You can hear the single Mi Sex, Your Sex on the show today.

I’m very pleased to air part 2 of my interview with Gerry Hannah of legendary Vancouver punk band the Subhumans. As we learned last week, Gerry has always been politically motivated, and the lyrics and vision of the Subhumans were testament to this. This week we hear how Gerry was inspired to take direct action as a member of the Squamish Five and he speaks candidly about what motivated his urban guerilla activities. This is a much-listen interview…

We kick off the show with a couple of tracks from the Subhumans classic record Incorrect Thoughts (1980) before featuring a track from Gerry Hannah’s outstanding 2014 indie folk/rock solo release called Coming Home. I met up with Gerry at Arts Wells 2016, where he performed with his band the New Questioning Coyote Brigade. You can hear pt 1 of the extensive interview I recorded with this Canadian music legend on today’s show.

Lots of sweet new tunes in the 2nd half of the show, including rock n roll band The Hollowmen from New Zealand, as well as Mi-Sex, a classic Kiwi rock/electronica act who’ve release their first record in 30 years!
