Double J radio in Australia is a great source of quality new music. I ran across an article on their website recently called ‘9 Australian bands from the 2000s worth revisiting’ and we’re playing three of these acts a the top of show – The Sleepy Jackson, The Red Sun Band and my personal favourite who i remember seeing live in concert, Rocket Science, featuring theremin-wielding, wild front-man Roman Tucker!

Lots of great new music on the show, as always, including renowned Australian songwriter Darren Hanlon and a track from The Valery Trails, a unique band who have more recordings than live performances under their belts given that part of the band lives in Australian and the other in Houston, Texas.

* Featuring interviews with kirtan singer Karnamrita Dasi and Daniel Fazio of Vancouver’s Waldorf Hotel *

I start the show this week with three more tracks from 1994 – this time electronica hits by Single Gun Theory, Itch-E and Scratch-E and Severed Heads.  ‘Dead Eyes Opened’ by pioneering electronic act Severed Heads is an infectious remix of the original track from 1984.

Next up is a re-broadcast of my interview with singer Karnamarita Dasi who played Kirtan Vancouver 2012 this past weekend. I hosted a one hour special on bhakti yoga last week during which I had chance to chat on the phone with this extraordinary voice and passionate spokesperson for the contemporary bhakti movement in North America.  I know this is not Australian or Canadian music, but this enlightening interview is too fascinating not to play again.

And we welcome back to the show CiTR Radio Arts Report contributor Sara Lapsley, as she shares her interview with Daniel Fazio, who is one of the proprietors of the uber-hip Waldorf Hotel here in Vancouver.  Daniel speaks to Sara about the origins of the newly renovated and re-launched Waldorf and tells us about the Food Cart Festival that is being hosted in the Waldorf carpark on Sundays this summer.

The show concludes on local note with tracks by Black Mountain and Brasstronaut.  MG
