This classic Ed Kuepper/Chris Bailey composition was first recorded exactly 40 years ago to the day I’m recording this show! It came out as an initial run of 500 7″ singles in September of 1976. We air the track in full as well as the brilliant b-side ‘No Time’. We follow up with a brand new track from Ed Kuepper who has been a prolific force in the world of Australian independent music since the Saints disbanded after three classic albums.

Lots of quality new Canadian music this week including a new single from Jay Arner and two stunning new artists – Alexandria Maillot of BC and Marlaena Moore from Alberta. We also introduce listeners to a spirited World Fusion group from the Okanagan called Barefoot Caravan.

* Featuring the music of The Seekers *

In keeping with the regular format of this show, we begin with featuring some older Australian music, this week in the form of three classics from easy-listening folk act The Seekers, who celebrated their 50 year anniversary in 2012.  It shouldn’t be forgotten that this five-piece, fronted by Judith Durham, have sold millions and albums and in the mid-60s were even competing with heavy-weights like The Rolling Stones on the UK albums charts. The band broke up only 6 years after the initial whirl-wind of international acclaim that began shortly after the band’s inception.

* Featuring a special on National Aboriginal Day 2012, including interviews with Rose from Redsoulbluez and Victoria homeless activist Rose Henry *

On Thursday June 21, Canada celebrated National Aboriginal Day.  In the previous week I was fortunate to see  Aboriginal blues musician and Juno Award winner, Murray Porter, play live in Vancouver.  Supporting Murray was a brand new project called Redsoulbluez and I interviewed Rose from the band.  She speaks about what it’s like to be an Aboriginal musician in Canada today.  I was also privileged to interview highly respected activist Rose Henry of Victoria, BC.  On today’s show you can hear Rose explain the importance of the decolonization movement and the urgent need for more equitable treatment of First Nations Canadians by government.

In today’s show I also feature some classic tracks from Australian Aboriginal musicians and feature a rising star of contemporary Aboriginal music, Benny Walker.  You’ll also learn about some historical and contemporary issues relating to Australian Indigenous people’s struggles for social justice and self-determination.  Much respect to the Coast Salish people of the Vancouver region and the Ngunnawal people of the Canberra region where I grew up in Australia.  MG
