An article from an Australian music journalist was posted online recently decrying the supposed lack of contemporary protest songs being written by Australian artists. In the last week there’s been push-back from more discerning listeners who note that the writer didn’t dig deep enough, as there are dozens of examples of protest songs from scenes not dominated by caucasian and heteronormative musicians. Andrew Stafford’s Guardian article lists a number of songs including those written by Missy Higgins, Baker Boy and The Drones and you can hear those tracks on this week’s show.
