It’s timely to revisit the hard-rock institution AC/DC this week given the recent shock announcement of ‘new guy’ singer Brian Johnson being sidelined with a hearing issue and Axl Rose taking on vocal duties for the remainder of the ‘Rock or Bust Tour’. This follows the sad departure of Malcolm Young following his diagnosis of early on-set dementia. You’ll hear a couple of Bon Scott era classics and a mid-80s Brian Johnson era single.

We’re pleased to introduce some new artists this week including Australian shoe-gaze band Bloodhounds On My Trail and The Response, duo from New Zealand who have recently relocated to Vancouver, making them ideal for this show! You’ll also hear a couple of tracks from innovative BC electronica artist Blocktreat who we will be interviewing for an upcoming show.

* Leah Barley LIVE in the CiTR studio *

We kick off a brand new year with a brief retrospective of Eamon McGrath, singer-songwriter. With over 250 songs written and countless tours of Canada and Europe under his belt, Toronto-based (and Edmonton-bred) McGrath is seemingly on path to be one of the greats of Canadian song. Today you can hear a track from his brand new record Exile, as well as selections from the ‘Peacemaker’ and ‘Young Canadians’ records, which were recorded at JC/DC studios in Vancouver, and also tracks recorded in Edmonton from as far back as 2007.

Next up we are joined by our first special guest of 2015 – Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Leah Barley! Leah will be playing the ‘Stranded’ Sunday Sessions #4′ at the Railway Club on 11 January. She speaks today of her music journey beginning on a fateful day when she was introduced to a rowdy roots jam in Canmore, AB. Leah was a joy to interview and I’m sure you’ll be delighted by with her acoustic guitar and banjo renditions of three original songs.

We start the show with a handful of older Australian songs that have a loose Halloween theme – firstly three songs with ‘blood’ in the title, followed by three songs with ghost in the title! The remainder of the show features brand new Canadian music, including tracks from Jordan Klassen, Angie Inglis and more.

* Featuring an interview with Juno Award winning First Nations blues musician Murray Porter *

First up on the show is an interview with First Nations blues musician Murray Porter who is performing Friday 7th December at the Music BC Charitable Foundation event ‘A Celebration of BC Music & Music Education’ at the Vogue Theatre.  Murray Porter is Mohawk from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory in southern Ontario but he has lived in Vancouver for many years.   Murray won a 2012 JUNO Award for `Aboriginal Album of the Year’, for his release `Songs Lived & Life Played’. “Murray Porter is a master bluesman”. Robbie Robertson (CBC Radio Interview, 2004).

The other day while browsing at a London Drugs I came across a CD re-issue of the original US release from AC/DC – the album ‘High Voltage‘ (1976).  Perfect for ‘Stranded’ I concluded…!  I feature 4 tracks from this Oz rock classic which is a treat for listeners who are partial to the working-man’s blues boogie/rock and lyrical double-entendres of Bon Scott era AC/DC.

The final part of the show features some impressive current Cancon including  a couple of tracks from J.Riley Hill – an up and coming outlaw folk/country singer from Winnipeg – and a punchy number by two-piece Hole In My Head who are supporting The Jolts and Nu Sense at the Interurban Gallery in Vancouver on Sat 8 Dec.
